GENERAL QUESTIONS
What services do you offer?

How do I work with your Firm?
Working with us starts with a quick Discovery Call! Fill out our form here to get started!
If you’re looking for a more in-depth session or actual individualized legal advice, then you need a Legal Strategy Session. Start here!
Or alternatively, if you’re interested in collaborating or booking us for a speaking engagement, you can start here!
What is the difference between a Discovery Call and a Legal Strategy Session?
Discovery Calls are 20 Minute phone calls to discuss only 1 particular service, whether it’s trademarks, copyrights, business formation, or any other service we provide. They do not include strategic legal advice. During this time, we learn more about your brand, broadly discuss the process of whatever service you’re interested in, and if we are able to help you, you receive quotes for the service based on our discussion.
Legal Strategy Sessions are 60 Minute video consultations about more than 1 particular service in full-depth. Legal Strategy Sessions include legal advice and are more specific to your individualized needs than our Discovery Calls. We discuss multiple services in full detail, the process of each, and of course, our quotes for both services if we are able to help you.
Legal Strategy Sessions are ideal for:
-
- new or experienced business owners who require specific individualized legal and business advice
- new or experienced business owners with a lot of business and legal questions that they’d like to discuss
- business owners who need help with a legal project they’ve taken on
- complicated legal matters, like litigation or responding to Office Actions
Can you represent clients outside of New York?
Yes, though we are licensed in New York, most of our services are covered under federal law, meaning we’re able to help entrepreneurs nation-wide!
Do you only work with fashion-focused clients?
Not at all! Fashion law IS one of our specialties, but we work with entrepreneurs in a variety of fields, including non-profit organizations, food & hospitality, technology & apps, printed media, and more!
We’re happy to service all entrepreneurs!
I started a legal project on my own. Can you take-over/help me correct any issues?
Yes, granted there are no conflicts of interest, our Firm can definitely help you correct any mistakes within your legal project!
However, you should bare in mind that some user mistakes are too large to “correct”. You may have to essentially start from scratch.
How do I collaborate or book you for event?
We’re so excited you’re interested in collaborating or booking us for your next event/speaking engagement! Please fill out our booking form here to get started!

TRADEMARKS, COPYRIGHTS & MORE
What is a federal trademark? What can I trademark?
A federal trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, and/or design (i.e, a “mark”) that identifies and distinguishes the source of goods of one party from those of others on a national level through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Examples of possible marks include:
- Brand names, logos, monograms, slogans, tag lines, domain names
- Shapes, colors, stripes, sounds, smells
- Product packaging and payment methods
- Store’s decor, menus, and interior-exterior layout
- And so much more…
What is the trademark registration process?
The trademark registration process is a federal legal proceeding that grants a person or company exclusive, national use of a particular mark (brand name, logo, slogan, etc.) within their specified industry(ies).
What is the difference between a trademark, copyright, and a patent?
Trademarks protect “branding elements”, like your brand name, logo, monograms, slogans, tag lines, colors, stripes, sounds, smells, and other source-identifying marks.
Copyrights protect ORIGINAL pictorial, graphic, sculptural, musical, literary, and audio-visual works of art “fixed in a tangible medium of expression” (i.e., in existence). The easy way to remember – Copyrights are for Content.
In fashion, copyrights are pretty rare. They are more often seen in jewelry design because jewelry is comparable to sculptures. And they can sometimes apply to graphic designs and original patterns on clothing.
Patents come in three different forms – utility, design, and plant. In simplest terms, patents protect new and non-obvious inventions and grant owners “the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling” the invention in the United States or “importing” the invention into the United States.

How do I know if I'm ready for a trademark?
It is never too early to seek federal protection for your business.
However, you can take our “Is Your Brand Name Trademark Ready?” quiz to get a quick assessment of whether your name is ready for trademark registration! It’s almost like a complimentary risk analysis.
I have more questions about trademarks. Where can I find answers?
Your best bet is to book a Trademark Discovery Call with us to address your question(s) specifically. You may also benefit from visiting our Trademarks Service page to read more FAQs about trademarks specifically.Â
I think I need to file a patent. Can you help me?
